Aminbazar: State Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Shaikh Faridul Islam today announced that the implementation work of the ‘Waste to Energy’ project will soon commence at the Aminbazar landfill area in Savar, located on the outskirts of the capital city.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the state minister emphasized that the project has been prioritized to tackle the escalating waste management crisis and environmental pollution affecting the Savar and Dhaka North City Corporation areas. This statement was made during his visit to the Aminbazar landfill, where he was accompanied by senior ministry officials, project representatives, and delegates from China Machinery Engineering Corporation, as mentioned in an official handout.

Faridul noted that the ongoing waste accumulation has severely impacted local residents due to the persistent stench and pollution. He highlighted the necessity for prompt and effective measures to alleviate these issues. The project, initiated in 2021, experienced delays caused by various complexities, which are now being addressed through swift governmental intervention.

The state minister further stated that amendments are being made to the Air Pollution (Control) Rules-2022 and the Solid Waste Management Rules-2021 to facilitate the project’s progress. The initiative aligns with the ‘Bangladesh First’ policy of the current administration. Faridul also expressed optimism that the project will significantly contribute to the ‘Green Dhaka, Clean City’ initiative, aiming to make Dhaka a more livable and pollution-free city.
