Gazipur: Labour and Employment Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury, along with Gazipur lawmaker and senior government officials, travelled to Gazipur by bus in an initiative to reduce public expenditure.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the group journeyed to attend a meeting at the Gazipur Deputy Commissioner's conference room. The meeting focused on maintaining industrial stability and ensuring the timely payment of wages and bonuses to workers ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
In a departure from tradition, the minister and his team opted for a single bus from Eskaton to Gazipur, avoiding the use of at least 20 government vehicles. This decision was made by the minister on Tuesday evening as a measure to curtail unnecessary government spending.
Accompanying the minister were Gazipur-5 Member of Parliament AKM Fazlul Haque Milon, Labour and Employment Secretary Md Abdur Rahman Tarafdar, Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Sharaf Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury, Inspector General of the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments Omar Md Imrul Mohsin, Director General of the Department of Labour Md Abdus Samad Al Azad, among other senior officials.
This initiative not only reduced fuel consumption but also cut down on public expenses. Amid global economic challenges, the minister's bus journey is seen as a significant example of austerity within public administration.
