Dhaka: Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Mohammad Shafiqul Islam Khan on Monday inaugurated the excavation and cleaning work of Tolarbag canal in Mirpur. The canal stretch extends from Mirpur Mazar Road to Gabtoli Main Road.

According to United News of Bangladesh, during the inauguration ceremony in Mirpur, the administrator emphasized the importance of quality work, proper supervision, and timely completion of the project. He reaffirmed DNCC’s commitment to providing a livable city and assured that public funds collected through taxes would be properly utilized in necessary sectors.

Shafiqul Islam Khan also issued a stern warning against substandard work by contractors, stating that strict monitoring would ensure no one takes payment without maintaining quality. He emphasized that all works must be completed within the stipulated timeframe mentioned in the tender.

Additionally, he highlighted DNCC’s efforts to ensure all civic services continue uninterrupted, with ongoing activities not being disrupted under any circumstances. Stressing his personal involvement, the administrator mentioned that he regularly visits project sites and approves bills only after being satisfied with the work progress.

He underlined the necessity of keeping canals clean to control mosquito breeding, as stagnant and polluted water serves as a breeding ground. He urged city dwellers not to dump waste into canals and mentioned preparations underway for waste management ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.

The waste management plan includes cleaning the city within six hours on Eid day, followed by continuous cleaning operations for 72 hours. The programme was chaired by Regional Executive Officer of Zone-4 Jalal Uddin, with DNCC Chief Engineer Brig Gen Syed Rakibul Hasan and other officials also in attendance.
