Barishal: Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon today emphasized the state’s responsibility in supporting the youth to build future generations. “That is why Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman had established the Ministry of Youth and Sports,” he stated.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister made these remarks while addressing the opening ceremony of the Second Division Cricket League at Barishal Outer Stadium. He stressed that a country, a nation, and its future generations cannot develop properly without a clear path for healthy recreation. The minister noted that Bangladesh cricket’s current global pride may not have been possible without Ziaur Rahman’s initiative for state patronage through the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

The minister criticized previous administrations for focusing solely on plundering, asserting the importance of state, society, and government support in children’s education and extracurricular activities. He highlighted that the current government, led by Tarique Rahman, has prioritized the sports and cultural sectors within just two months of assuming office. “Developing the sports sector and ensuring healthy recreation is our goal,” he added.

The Second Division Cricket League has commenced at Barishal Outer Stadium after a 12-year hiatus. This year’s league features 20 teams divided into 8 groups, marking a significant revival of local sports activities.
