Dhaka: Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and Science and Technology Fakir Mahbub Anam today emphasized the necessity of broadband as a fundamental requirement for sectors such as education, health, e-governance, and trade and commerce. Speaking as the chief guest at the closing ceremony of Broadband Expo 2026, held at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, he underlined the pivotal role of broadband in advancing towards a Smart Bangladesh.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Minister detailed the government's initiatives to provide high-speed internet access to remote regions, make broadband services affordable, and foster a business-friendly atmosphere. He highlighted plans to boost employment by introducing AI and freelancing training programs in every upazila. Moreover, he urged stronger collaboration between the governmental and private sectors to facilitate the nation's digital development.
Secretary of the ICT Division Kazi Anwar Hossain, speaking as a special guest, pointed out the importance of robust and reliable connectivity in the journey towards building a Smart Bangladesh. He articulated the government's three primary objectives: 'One Citizen, One ID, One Wallet,' along with the integration of artificial intelligence in health, education, and public services.
The Broadband Expo 2026 featured participation from various internet service providers, technology companies, and stakeholders from across the country. They showcased modern technology and services during the event. Special guests included Advocate Zainul Abedin, Chairman of the Special Committee of the National Parliament; Abdus Salam, Administrator of Dhaka South City Corporation; and Major General Md. Emdad Ul Bari, Chairman of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC).
