Dhaka: Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Abdul Awal Mintoo has announced that mobile courts are actively engaged in efforts to reduce air, water, and noise pollution across Dhaka and other regions. This statement was made in response to a starred question from Afzal Hossain, an opposition member from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, representing Kushtia-4, during a parliamentary session today. Mintoo highlighted that measures have been implemented to establish Effluent Treatment Plants (ETPs) in industries that discharge liquid waste, aiming to control water pollution effectively.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Minister elaborated on the initiatives targeting air pollution reduction, emphasizing the regular operations conducted against illegal brick kilns by the mobile courts. During the brick-kiln season from November 2025 to March 2026, a total of 11 illegal brick kilns were demolished, and a fine of Taka 100,000 was imposed on one kiln operator. Since January 1 of this year, the mobile courts have prosecuted 15 cases, leading to fines totaling Taka 30,000. Moreover, 32 hydraulic horns have been confiscated and destroyed as part of the noise pollution control measures.
To further combat noise pollution, the Minister mentioned that leaflets are being distributed consistently to educate the public and raise awareness. These efforts underscore the government's commitment to tackling environmental challenges and promoting sustainable practices throughout the country.
