Khulna: Khulna University has introduced a ‘skill development test’ for the first time in the promotion process of its officers and employees, marking a new milestone in administrative management.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the university authorities stated that the decision aims to enhance professional standards and administrative efficiency. Promotions or upgradations will now be granted based on merit and competence alongside seniority, a move that signifies a shift from the traditional seniority-based promotions predominant in most public universities in the country.

The Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) organized the test, which was held today. Candidates underwent a comprehensive assessment through three stages: written tests, job-related practical exams, and computer typing tests. Successful candidates will be recommended for promotion based on the evaluation by the board.

Sources concerned highlighted that KU’s initiative represents a significant departure from existing norms and is expected to foster a competitive mindset among staff, encouraging them to enhance their skills. This change is anticipated to promote a culture of continuous professional development within the university.

During the examination, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Rezaul Karim visited the halls, accompanied by Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Harun-or-Rashid Khan and IQAC Director Prof Dr Md Mostafizur Rahman. In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor described the initiative as timely and effective, expressing optimism that it would ensure proper recognition of qualified and competent personnel while enhancing professionalism in administrative duties.

Relevant stakeholders view this step as a positive change, suggesting that such evaluation systems will improve both the pace of administrative work and the overall quality of services provided by the university.
