Mohammadpur: Police have arrested four individuals, including the alleged mastermind, within 24 hours of the sensational murder of Asadul in the Mohammadpur area of the capital.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the arrested individuals have been identified as Md. Munna (24), Md. Akhtar Hossain (45), Md. Miraj Fakir (22), and Md. Nayan alias Khokon (24). A raid conducted in the Keraniganj area led to their arrest, and a motorcycle and a Swiss gear knife believed to have been used in the murder were recovered from their possession. Deputy Commissioner Md. Ibne Mizan of the Tejgaon Division disclosed the details at the DMP Media Centre.
The incident occurred around 12:50 am on Wednesday in front of Ripon’s workshop on a road in the Sadeq Khan Brickfield area of Rayerbazar. The victim, Asadul, also known as Lombu Asadul, was attacked by the accused, who used sharp knives and bricks to inflict serious injuries on different parts of his body. Police arrived at the scene after being informed by locals and rescued the victim, who was later declared dead at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital.
Following the incident, Asadul’s cousin, Anju Akter, filed a murder case with Mohammadpur Police Station. Police used intelligence and technological support to identify the suspects and trace their locations. During preliminary interrogation, the accused confessed that the murder was motivated by prior enmity, including a previous assault by the victim on Akhtar Hossain and financial disputes.
Police sources revealed that Munna has seven previous cases related to drugs and robbery, while Miraj has one case and Nayan has two drug-related cases. Legal proceedings against the arrested individuals are underway, and police operations continue to apprehend other absconding suspects.
