Dhaka: The ministry of power, energy and mineral resources today issued a clarification regarding reports on a supposed US concession concerning Russian fuel imports. “No authorized official of the ministry provided any information, confirmation or comment to any media outlet in this regard,” the ministry stated, while noting that some media outlets had published news about a 60-day concession or a plan to import 10 lakh tonnes of diesel from Russia between April 11, 2026, and June 9, 2026.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the ministry’s clarification emphasized that no official information, updated details, or communication exists regarding any US concession on Russian fuel imports. Furthermore, there is no proposal, decision, or arrangement by the government to purchase 10 lakh tonnes of diesel from Russia. The ministry reiterated that the news was not based on any authorized information from the energy and mineral resources division.

The ministry also expressed concern that the unauthorized publ
ication of sensitive information under the division’s name might cause confusion in the national energy policy and impact international relations.
