Bagerhat: The monthly meeting of the Bagerhat District law and order committee was held this morning with Deputy Commissioner Golam Md. Baten presiding over the session. Bagerhat-1 constituency MP Principal Mashiur Rahman Khan attended as the chief guest, while Bagerhat Sadar-2 constituency MP Sheikh Manjurul Haque Rahad joined as a special guest.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting highlighted significant actions taken under the Narcotics Control Program, with 22 people sentenced to prison for narcotics offenses. Additionally, 29 cases were filed for selling adulterated products, resulting in a fine of Tk 32,000 in seven instances under the Agricultural Marketing Act. A task force operation collected fines totaling Tk 87,000.
Furthermore, 41 cases were recorded under the Road Accident Prevention and Arms Act. The meeting acknowledged the Coast Guard's efforts in keeping the Sundarbans free from banditry and decided to establish a sub-camp in the Sharankhola area of the Sundarbans East Forest Division to enhance law and order.
Discussions encompassed measures to prevent kidnappings in prisons, unauthorized canal cutting, and illicit fish farming. Efforts will be intensified to recover illegal weapons, monitor terrorist activities, and halt the open market sale of petrol. The meeting reported that fish, meat, and vegetable prices remain stable in the district, and mobile court activities will continue.
The meeting also covered strategies to prevent robbery, banditry, murder, riots, theft, and human trafficking. It was announced that a measles vaccination program would commence this month in the district.
Executive officers from nine upazilas, police station officers-in-charge, Coast Guard and Navy members, District Law and Order Committee members, and media personnel participated in the event.
