Tangail: Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman today announced the launch of the ‘Farmer Card’, a government initiative designed to support farmers in achieving self-reliance and financial stability. The announcement was made during the inauguration ceremony at the Shaheed Maruf Stadium in Sadar Upazila.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Prime Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to empowering farmers through this programme, which is part of a broader strategy to strengthen the agricultural sector. The ‘Farmer Card’ was introduced on Pahela Boaishakh, marking the start of a pre-pilot programme across 11 upazilas in 10 districts. During the launch, Taka 2,500 was directly transferred to the bank accounts of 22,065 farmers, with 1,453 farmers in Tangail benefiting from this initiative.

He reiterated the government’s intention to distribute the ‘Farmer Card’ to 2.75 crore farmers over the next five years. Tarique Rahman reflected on past agricultural initiatives by former leaders, drawing parallels to the current programme’s potential impact on food security and economic growth.

The event featured speeches from key government officials, including Fisheries, Livestock and Agriculture Minister Mohammed Aminur Rashid and other notable guests. The Prime Minister concluded by urging collective efforts to enhance agricultural productivity and ensure fair market prices for farmers, while also addressing challenges like inadequate storage facilities for perishable goods.
