Jashore: State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Aninda Islam Amit emphasized the government’s dedication to mitigating public distress during the ongoing global energy crisis, which has also impacted Bangladesh. “The irrigation season is now underway. The government is ensuring that farmers are not affected in any way. Electricity and fuel oil are being supplied without interruption for agricultural use,” he reported after inspecting the programme site in preparation for Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s forthcoming visit to Jashore.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Prime Minister is scheduled to arrive in Ulashi, Sharsha Upazila, from Jashore Airport on the morning of April 27. His visit will include participation in the re-excavation of Ulashi Canal, a site of historical significance linked to Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman. Additionally, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for Jashore Medical College Hospital, visit the Jashore Institute Public Library, and deliver a public address at Eidgah Maidan.

Minister Aninda highlighted that the Prime Minister’s visit marks the revival of development in Jashore, which had stalled over the past 17 years. He also referenced the late Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia’s 2006 announcement regarding a 500-bed medical college hospital in Jashore, stating that the current government’s political commitment to this project will be realized with the upcoming foundation laying.

Earlier in the day, Aninda presided over a meeting with heads of various government departments at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference room to assess preparations for the Prime Minister’s visit. Following the meeting, he toured the proposed site for Jashore Medical College Hospital and the Ulashi Canal area in Sharsha Upazila.
