Chuadanga: Water Resources Minister Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee today inaugurated the re-excavation of the D15N canal in Alamdanga upazila of Chuadanga after 45 years, aiming to restore water flow and boost the rural economy.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister formally launched the excavation work this afternoon by cutting soil with a spade under a nationwide programme for the excavation and re-excavation of rivers, canals, and reservoirs. Earlier, during a discussion before the inauguration, the minister stated that strengthening the rural economy and advancing agriculture are among the government’s top priorities. He emphasized that alongside urban-centric development, equal importance is being given to infrastructure development in rural areas.
Minister Anee highlighted that the canal re-excavation programme would not only restore normal water flow but also create employment opportunities and ensure sustainable agricultural development. The event, chaired by Chuadanga Deputy Commissioner Lutfun Nahar, was also addressed by Alamdanga Upazila Nirbahi Officer Panna Akter, Chuadanga-1 lawmaker Masud Parvez Russell, and Chuadanga district BNP General Secretary Sharifuzzaman Sharif. Chuadanga Water Development Board Executive Engineer Arif Ahmed delivered the welcome address.
