Dhaka: Parliament will hold two sittings a day – morning and afternoon – from Tuesday to expedite the passage of 133 ordinances within the April 9 deadline, Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni said on Monday. The decision to increase the frequency of sittings was made at a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee. Moni added that sittings might also be held on Friday if necessary to ensure the completion of the process on time.
According to United News of Bangladesh, all 133 ordinances must be passed within the stipulated deadline. Parliament recently passed seven bills, although Chief Whip Moni expressed regret that copies of all the bills could not be circulated in advance due to time constraints. It was emphasized that bills receiving unanimous approval in the special parliamentary committee should be passed immediately. In contrast, those with notes of dissent or proposed amendments will be presented separately.
Efforts are underway to place these bills before Parliament by tomorrow, Moni stated. The urgency stems from the need to adhere to the April 9 deadline, prompting the intensified schedule of parliamentary sessions.
