Heavy Rainfall Submerges Vast Tracts of Boro Crops in Habiganj

Habiganj: Vast tracts of boro paddy fields have been inundated due to heavy rainfall over the past few days in eight unions across three upazilas of Habiganj district.



According to United News of Bangladesh, Alok Kumar Chand, Assistant Agriculture Officer of Baniachang Upazila, reported that 33,705 hectares of land in the upazila had been dedicated to boro paddy cultivation. Among these, approximately 218 hectares of boro fields in various unions, including Sujatpur, Mandari, Muradpur, Poilar Kandi, Bhugli, Bhalluara, Rajakhai, Hijli, Bali, and Bager Agar haors, have been submerged. Detailed information on the crop losses is yet to be determined, officials said.



Shahadul Islam, Agriculture Officer of Lakhai Upazila, disclosed that six hectares of boro paddy along the bank of the Dhaleshwari River in No. 1 Lakhai Union have been submerged. In Azmiriganj Upazila, four hectares of boro fields in Jalsukha Union were partially submerged, while three hectares were fully submerged. In Badalpur Union, four hectares were partially and six hectares fully affected. Additionally, one hectare of boro paddy has been submerged in Kakailchho Union.



This season, the local Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) had set a goal to bring 1,23,848 hectares of land under boro cultivation. However, only 1,23,644 hectares were actually cultivated, falling short by 204 hectares.
