Dhaka: The Governing Body of the International Labour Organization (ILO) has applauded the newly elected government of Bangladesh for formulating labour-friendly policies. Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) spokesperson Mahdi Amin shared this news with journalists at the Bangladesh Secretariat this afternoon after returning from the ILO Governing Body meeting recently held in Switzerland.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, discussions at the meeting included a possible visit by the ILO Director General to Bangladesh in June. Mahdi Amin, who also serves as the Prime Minister’s adviser, mentioned that an international conference on artificial intelligence (AI) is scheduled to take place in Geneva in July, organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has been invited to attend this conference by the UN Secretary General.

Highlighting Bangladesh’s potential as a global role model in manpower export, Mahdi Amin revealed that a bilateral meeting with Saudi Arabia focused on increasing the number of skilled and qualified workers sent from Bangladesh to Saudi Arabia. The discussions also aimed to enhance collaboration in technical training institutes. Additionally, there were talks on strengthening bilateral relations by utilizing Saudi Arabia’s expertise in Arabic language education.

“Our primary objective is to boost manpower export from Bangladesh to Saudi Arabia in all categories-skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled,” Mahdi Amin stated. The government’s overarching goal is to create extensive employment opportunities for the youth in Bangladesh, both domestically and internationally. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has emphasized the importance of learning a third language to equip young people with additional skills and competence.

The PMO spokesperson expressed optimism that, under the Prime Minister’s leadership, labour rights will be safeguarded in Bangladesh through these labour-friendly policies. Mahdi Amin envisioned a future where workers and employers work collaboratively to advance the nation.
