Keraniganj: Two individuals who suffered injuries in a fire at a gas lighter manufacturing factory in Keraniganj have been granted financial aid of Taka 15,000 each by the Dhaka district administration. The injured, Jisan and Asif Molla, are currently receiving medical care at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the financial assistance was delivered by Keraniganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Omar Faruk at the hospital, following directives from the Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka, Rezaul Karim. Dhaka District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Saifullah Majumdar confirmed that the aid is aimed at supporting the victims during their recovery.
The fire incident has resulted in the loss of six lives. While the identities of two victims have been initially confirmed, DNA testing will be required for the identification of the remaining bodies. Families of the deceased will receive humanitarian assistance of Taka 25,000 each once identification procedures are completed, as stated by the Relief Officer.
The fire erupted at approximately 1:10 pm on Saturday at the factory situated at Kadamtali intersection under Keraniganj upazila. It took seven units of the Fire Service and Civil Defence until around 2:30 pm to bring the blaze under control. According to Fire Service Media Officer Talha Bin Jasim, the death toll stands at six.
