Gaibandha: A soil trader was fined Taka one lakh for cutting topsoil of land and selling it to customers illegally in Gobindaganj upazila of the district this noon. Acting on a tip-off, a mobile court led by Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Tamsid Iram Khan conducted a drive at Dakhkhinpara village under Kamardaha Union of the upazila on Sunday noon and discovered the soil cutting and selling activities of the local trader.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the soil trader, identified as Abu Hossain, was penalized for his involvement in the unauthorized extraction and sale of topsoil. The mobile court, upon finding evidence of the illegal operations, decided to impose a hefty fine on Hossain. Additionally, the court seized the excavator, popularly known as the Veku machine, which was being used for cutting the soil from the spot.
The case filed by the court was resolved after the accused, Abu Hossain, promptly paid the monetary penalty. This swift action by the authorities aims to deter similar illegal activities in the future and ensure the protection of the district's land resources.
