Dhaka: Director General of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Additional IGP Md. Ahsan Habib Palash, has shared the agency’s future plans to strengthen operations aimed at upholding the rule of law, protecting human rights, ensuring public safety, preventing crime, and bringing offenders to justice. These remarks were made during a session at the RAB Media Center in Kawran Bazar, where the DG highlighted the significant operational successes of RAB in recent months.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the DG noted the pivotal role RAB has played since its inception in combating crime. The agency has been instrumental in arresting criminals involved in murder, extortion, armed terrorism, robbery, kidnapping, and fraud. It has also been effective in recovering illegal arms, ammunition, and narcotics.
In detailing recent accomplishments, the DG stated that RAB conducted several arms-related operations over the past three months, resulting in the arrest of 104 individuals and the recovery of 331 weapons. Notable operations took place in Chapainawabganj on February 8, Sirajganj’s Salanga area on March 9, Munshiganj’s Srinagar on March 10, and Rupnagar in the capital on March 27.
The DG also mentioned a tragic incident in Chittagong’s Sitakunda, where RAB member DAD Motaleb Hossain was killed during an anti-terror operation in the Salimpur hills. Following this, a case was filed against 29 individuals, and a joint operation by RAB and police on March 9 led to the arrest of 20 suspects.
The DG further reported on RAB’s efforts in tackling serious crimes, revealing that 484 individuals were arrested in murder cases over the last 90 days, with key operations in Jhenaidah on March 8 and Madaripur on March 21. In addition, RAB apprehended 175 accused in rape cases, 61 kidnappers, 106 robbers, 26 human traffickers, and 3,473 individuals involved in pornography-related cases. Anti-narcotics operations resulted in the arrest of 1,115 individuals.
From January to March 2026, RAB successfully brought approximately 3,500 individuals involved in various criminal activities under the law. The DG emphasized RAB’s commitment to continue intelligence-driven operations and coordinate efforts with other law enforcement agencies to ensure nationwide peace and security.
The session concluded with the DG answering questions from journalists, reaffirming RAB’s dedication to professionalism and accountability.
