Dhaka: Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock Minister Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid today directed the authorities concerned to work intensively to prevent crop losses in the country’s haor regions. He gave the directive while addressing a review meeting on the overall situation of Boro paddy cultivation, production, and harvesting at the conference room of the Ministry of Agriculture as the chief guest.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister described the haor region as a major production hub of crops, particularly rice, and emphasized that no paddy should be lost. He urged all parties involved, including local administration and public representatives, to work in a coordinated manner to ensure smooth harvesting.

Highlighting the importance of timely harvesting, Minister Amin Ur Rashid instructed that an adequate number of combine harvesters must be made available. He stressed the need for prompt repairs of non-functional machines and suggested renting additional harvesters from neighboring regions if necessary to complete harvesting on time. The minister also emphasized that the fuel supply for harvesters must remain uninterrupted during the harvesting period.

He further underscored the importance of closely monitoring weather conditions in the haor areas and urged authorities to remain prepared for any situation. Amin Ur Rashid directed officials to ensure the availability of agricultural laborers so that paddy can be harvested without delay.

The meeting, chaired by Agriculture Secretary Rafiqul E Mohamed, was also attended virtually by field-level administration and agriculture officials from haor districts.
