Interests of Genuine Fishermen to Be Protected in Leasing Government Water Bodies: Minu

Sunamganj: Land Minister Md. Mizanur Rahman Minu today affirmed that the interests of genuine fishermen will be safeguarded in the leasing of government water bodies throughout the country. He emphasized this point while speaking as the chief guest at a workshop titled ‘Finalization of the Draft Government Water Bodies Act-2026,’ held at the Sunamganj Shilpakala Academy auditorium.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Minu reiterated that the BNP government is committed to protecting the interests of true fishermen, as safeguarding public welfare remains the primary objective of the government. Minu assured attendees that flowing rivers would not be subjected to the leasing system, maintaining their accessibility for the fishermen.



During the workshop, Minu highlighted that despite ongoing global challenges, the government has chosen not to increase fuel prices, acknowledging the difficulties faced by the populace. The event was presided over by Land Ministry’s Senior Secretary A S M Saleh Ahmed and was attended by local members of parliament, senior government officials, and representatives of the fishing community.
