Zia’s Unfinished Canal Excavation to be Completed Under Tarique Rahman’s Leadership: Anee

Lakshmipur: Water Resources Minister Md Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee today announced that the unfinished canal excavation works initiated by Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman will be completed under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. “The canal excavation programme was a revolutionary initiative of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, but it remained unfinished. Completing it according to President Zia’s original plan will help build a self-reliant Bangladesh,” he stated.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister made these remarks while serving as the chief guest at the inauguration of the canal re-excavation in the Kafilatoli area of Uttar Hamsdi Union in Lakshmipur Sadar Upazila. Anee emphasized that the government is implementing irrigation systems in agriculture and undertaking excavation and re-excavation of rivers, canals, and other water bodies to enhance water flow, protect biodiversity, and reduce waterlogging.

He further mentioned that these measures are expected to bring a tran
sformative change to the country’s agricultural sector. The minister also discussed the government’s ongoing social initiatives, including the distribution of family cards under a pilot programme, which is set to gradually cover the entire country.

He highlighted that farmers’ cards will be distributed on Pahela Baishakh, stressing the government’s commitment to fulfilling public demands and expectations. The event was presided over by Lakshmipur-2 constituency lawmaker Abul Khayer Bhuiyan, with BNP lawmaker of Lakshmipur-1 Shahadat Hossen Selim and Deputy Commissioner SM Mehedi Hasan, among others, in attendance.
