Coast Guard Seizes Illegal Nets Worth Taka 118 Crore in Teknaf

Teknaf: The Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG), the country’s maritime law enforcement agency, in a joint operation has seized illegal nets valued at approximately Taka 118 crore in the Baharchhara area of Teknaf. The operation was conducted in collaboration with the Fisheries Department.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, BCG Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan stated that acting on a tip-off, BCG members from Teknaf’s Baharchhara outpost and the Fisheries Department conducted a raid at Shamlapur Bazar in Baharchhara Union under Teknaf Police Station. The operation took place from 5 pm to 8 pm on Thursday.



During the search, authorities discovered two warehouses containing 60 lakh meters of illegal charghera nets, 40 lakh meters of current nets, and 20 behundi nets. The total value of the seized nets is estimated to be around Tk 118 crore.



While no arrests were made during the operation, as the illegal net traders managed to escape upon sensing the presence of law enforcement, the seized nets were destroyed in the presence of the Teknaf Upazila Fisheries Representative.
