Kushtia: An eight-month-old child died at Kushtia Medical College Hospital early Friday after being admitted with symptoms consistent with measles, hospital officials said. Afran, son of Al Amin of Bhadalia village in Kushtia Sadar upazila, succumbed to his condition around 5:30am.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the family reported that the child had been suffering from cold, fever, and reddish rashes before being taken to a local physician. On medical advice, Afran was later admitted to the hospital. Afran’s father stated that his son’s condition worsened on Thursday and became critical early Friday, suggesting a lack of timely support from the hospital staff.
The hospital’s Deputy Director, HM Anwarul Islam, denied the allegation, stating that the infant had been in critical condition since his admission and was advised to be transferred to Dhaka for advanced treatment. Despite this advice, the family did not proceed with the transfer. Islam emphasized that the doctors provided treatment to the best of their ability before the child’s death.
