Dhaka: The leases of three water bodies in the Kalmakanda upazila of Netrokona district have been cancelled. The cancellation decision was reached during the 90th meeting of the committee responsible for leasing government water bodies under development projects.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting took place at the ministry’s conference room in Dhaka, chaired by Land Minister Md. Mizanur Rahman Minu. State Minister Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin and Senior Secretary A S M Saleh Ahmed were also present. The committee unanimously decided to cancel the leases of the Ubdakhali River and Hagla Beel, the Medhabil Tunaibari Khal water body, and the Bhogai River water body in Kalmakanda upazila.
In the same session, the committee resolved to suspend the leasing process for 54 water bodies in the Sunamganj district as part of the scheduled programme. This suspension aims to ensure transparency, accountability, and public interest, ultimately benefiting genuine stakeholders.
