Dhaka: The government has directed Deputy Commissioners (DCs) to ensure the availability of diesel for farmers across the country. Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Monir Hossain Chowdhury, disclosed this information at a press conference held at the Secretariat today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a virtual meeting was conducted between the ministry and the DCs of all 64 districts. During this meeting, DCs were instructed to take necessary measures to supply diesel to farmers as per demand, given the country’s sufficient stock. Monir Hossain Chowdhury expressed optimism that, following the government’s directives, farmers would have uninterrupted access to diesel.
Monir Hossain revealed that the country currently possesses nearly 271,374 tonnes of diesel in stock, ensuring no difficulty in supplying it to the farmers. He encouraged farmers to reach out to the local administration should they encounter any challenges in acquiring diesel.
Additionally, Monir Hossain confirmed that there is no shortage of octane and petrol, with fuel oil being supplied to petrol pumps nationwide as usual. Addressing the global war situation, he noted that certain individuals might be illegally hoarding fuel, prompting the government to continue its drive against such activities.
He also mentioned that some consumers, fearing a potential price hike, are purchasing more fuel than necessary, which has resulted in increased pressure on petrol pumps. Despite these challenges, the government has refrained from increasing fuel prices, considering the difficulties faced by consumers.
Instructions have been issued to depot authorities and petrol pump owners to maintain a regular supply, ensuring that the needs of farmers and the general public are met without disruption.
