Dhaka: Mosquito control efforts in the capital must be further strengthened, said Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Md Shafiqul Islam Khan. He made these remarks during the inauguration of a two-day training programme focused on Integrated Vector Management (IVM) and Basic Pest Control Techniques, organised by the DNCC Health Department at Nagar Bhaban.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Shafiqul instructed mosquito control workers to perform their duties with sincerity and commitment, emphasizing practical knowledge over theoretical learning. He acknowledged the mosquito infestation problem faced by city dwellers and stressed the importance of sincere efforts to achieve desired goals, even if complete success is not immediately attainable.
Highlighting the link between waste management and mosquito control, Shafiqul noted that DNCC is actively implementing waste management programmes. He stated that if all parties fulfill their responsibilities, it would provide some relief to the residents of the city.
The event was attended by DNCC Chief Executive Officer Muhammad Asaduzzaman, entomologist Dr Kabirul Bashar, and public health expert Dr Benazir Ahmed, among others. The DNCC Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Imrul Kayes Chowdhury presided over the event.
The training programme includes 82 participants, comprising DNCC health officers and mosquito control supervisors from various wards. Sessions are being conducted by public health experts and entomologists over the course of the two days.
