Dhaka: Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed on Monday addressed Parliament, revealing that more than half of the police vehicles across the country were either burnt or completely destroyed during the mass uprising involving students and the general public. The disturbances, which took place in July and August, saw police stations and installations attacked, vandalized, and set ablaze in various regions, leading to extensive logistical damage to law enforcement forces.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Salahuddin Ahmed detailed the significant impact the damage had on police operations, particularly due to the destruction of vehicles. This resulted in disruptions to the normal patrolling and law enforcement activities as the police grappled with the sudden vehicle shortage. However, he assured the Parliament that the current government is actively working to resolve this logistical crisis by restoring police capacity and replenishing the fleet with new vehicles.

The Home Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to transforming the police force into a disciplined, modern, and people-friendly entity. To achieve this, a long-term plan has been adopted, focusing on restructuring efforts and the increased use of modern technology within the force.
