Dhaka: The Namaz-e-Janaza of Professor Dilara Hafiz, wife of Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Speaker Major (retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, was held at the JS’s south plaza in the capital today. The ceremony was led by Imam of the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat Quari M Abu Raihan.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Deputy Speaker of Parliament Barrister Kayser Kamal initiated the proceedings by reading a brief biography of the late Dilara Hafiz. Several prominent figures, including Jatiya Sangsad Chief Whip M Nurul Islam, opposition leader Dr M Shafiqur Rahman, MP, BNP Secretary General and Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, and Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, addressed those gathered at the Janaza premises.
Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed expressed his gratitude to those present for attending the Namaz-e-Janaza of his beloved wife, Prof Dilara Hafiz. He reminisced about their successful conjugal life and her contributions as a Director General of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE).
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman paid tribute to the deceased following the Janaza prayers. Additionally, the Secretary of Public Division of the President’s Office paid respects on behalf of the President. Other tributes were offered by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on behalf of the BNP, Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal, Chief Whip M Nurul Islam, other whips of the Jatiya Sangsad, and secretary and officials of the Parliament Secretariat.
After paying these tributes, a Doa and Munajat were offered, seeking eternal peace for the deceased’s soul. Subsequently, Dilara Hafiz was laid to rest at the Banani Military Graveyard following her second Namaz-e-Janaza.
The ceremony was attended by members of the cabinet division, BNP standing committee members, opposition members of parliament, senior parliament secretariat officials, and people from the Bhola-3 constituency, among others.
