Dhaka: A court here today imposed a travel ban on former law minister Anisul Huq, his personal secretary (PS) Rashedul Kawsar Bhuiyan Jibon, and Huq’s alleged friend and confidante Taufiqa Karim. Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order, allowing a plea from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the petition stated that Taufiqa Karim, Anisul Huq, and Rashedul Kawsar Bhuiyan Jibon allegedly acted in collusion to launder criminal proceeds amounting to Taka 24.53 crore, which were obtained through extortion. The CID argued that the travel restrictions are essential to ensure a fair and proper investigation into the matter.

The court’s decision comes amid intensified scrutiny over financial misconduct allegations involving high-profile individuals. The travel ban aims to prevent the accused from leaving the country, which could potentially hinder the ongoing investigation. The CID’s plea emphasized the need for a thorough probe to uncover the full scope of the alleged financial crimes.
