Dinajpur: Two people were killed and at least six others were seriously injured in a road accident in Birampur upazila of the district this morning. The deceased were identified as Mosharraf Hossain Babu, the bus driver, and Azizul Islam, the bus helper.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the accident occurred around 10:00 am at Chandpur on the Dinajpur-Gobindaganj regional highway. A passenger coach collided head-on with a sand-laden truck, resulting in the immediate deaths of the bus driver and helper and leaving six others injured.
The injured were initially taken to Birampur Upazila Health Complex. Due to the critical condition of four individuals, they were later transferred to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR) in Dhaka. The other two injured passengers were sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
Inspector (Investigation) Ataur Rahman of Birampur Police Station confirmed the casualties. Locals, along with fire service personnel and police, conducted rescue operations at the scene. Authorities have seized both vehicles involved in the accident, and legal proceedings are underway.
