Man Killed in Magura Lightning Strike While Picking Onions

Dhaka: A man was killed after being struck by lightning while picking onions in Sripur upazila of the district this morning. The deceased was Suruj Ali, 35, son of Gulbar Ali, a resident of Joyrampur village in Khan Morich union under Bhangura upazila of Pabna district.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the tragic incident occurred around 11.30 am at Durgapur village of the upazila when a sudden thunderstorm accompanied by lightning struck the field, leaving Suruj critically injured. He was rescued by locals and taken to Dwariapur Upazila Health Complex where the doctor on duty declared him dead.



Suruj Ali had come to Sripur in search of work. On Saturday morning, he joined a farmer’s onion-picking work as a laborer. Officer-in-Charge of Sripur Police Station Md. Shahin Mia confirmed the matter.
