Dipen Dewan Expresses Grief Over Passing of Speaker’s Wife

Chittagong: Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Minister Dipen Dewan expressed profound grief and sorrow at the death of Dilara Hafiz, wife of Jatiya Sangsad (Parliament) Speaker Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, in a condolence message, Dewan remarked on Dilara Hafiz’s dedication as an educationist and her significant contributions to the advancement of the country’s education sector. He highlighted her administrative roles and noted that her demise has deprived the nation of a patriotic guardian.



The minister conveyed his prayers for the eternal peace of her departed soul and extended deep sympathy to the bereaved family.



Dilara Hafiz passed away at 11:29 am [Bangladesh time] while undergoing treatment at Singapore General Hospital. She was 78. Prior to her treatment in Singapore, she had been receiving care at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka. On the day of Eid-ul-Fitr, she was transported to Singapore by air ambulance and was on life support at the time of her passing.



Dilara Hafiz was a former Director General of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education and a former principal of Eden Mohila College. She is survived by her husband, a son, a daughter, grandchildren, and numerous relatives, colleagues, and well-wishers.
