Dhaka: The first meeting of the House Committee of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad (JS) commenced today at the JS Bhaban, chaired by Committee Chairman and Chief Whip Md Nurul Islam. Committee members, including Rakibul Islam, Miah Nuruddin Ahmad Apu, Mohamed Koysor Ahmed, Md Shohidul Islam, Nayab Yusuf Ahmed, SM Jahangir Hossain, Md Saiful Alam, and Md Abul Hasnat, were present for the session.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, discussions focused on several key issues such as the Rules 250 and 251 of the Rules of Procedure of the Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad and relevant topics. The meeting reviewed the progress of renovation works on MPs’ residential buildings situated at Manik Mia Avenue and Nakhalpara, as well as the renovation of 156 office rooms at MP Hostel in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar. Ensuring continuous emergency medical services for Members of Parliament, through sufficient deployment of specialist doctors and medical officers at the Parliament Medical Centre, was also a significant agenda item.
Security arrangements at the flats located at Manik Mia Avenue and Nakhalpara were discussed, with emphasis on maintaining round-the-clock security and appropriate staffing at the Members’ Building Branch. The session included prayers for the late wife of the Speaker of the Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad and for the successful journey of the new parliament and the welfare of Bangladesh’s people.
The committee instructed relevant authorities to expedite the completion of furniture making, repairs, and necessary renovations of MPs’ residential buildings, ensuring adherence to quality standards. Additionally, the committee urged the committee formed to identify sound system issues in the parliament session hall to submit its findings with recommendations by April 3, 2026.
To enhance the Parliament Medical Centre and extend healthcare services, recommendations were made for the deployment of cardiac specialists, acquisition of medical equipment, ICU ambulances, freezer ambulances for deceased bodies, and procurement of medicines from reputable companies. Attendees included the Chief Engineer, Additional Chief Engineer, officials of the Public Works Department, Additional Secretary of the Parliament Secretariat, Sergeant-at-Arms, and other concerned officials.
