Dhaka: Attorney General (AG) Barrister Md. Ruhul Quddus Kajol has expressed his intent to use the office of the state’s top law officer to help people secure justice. In a recent interview, he emphasized the constitutional responsibility and importance of his position, outlining his vision for a more accessible and efficient justice system.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Barrister Kajol, the 18th Attorney General of Bangladesh, highlighted that the AG’s office is the highest law office of the state, representing the state in all courts and primarily conducting cases on behalf of the government in the Supreme Court. He expressed his commitment to ensuring justice for citizens, stating, “This country belongs to all of us. We want its welfare. I will make my utmost effort to ensure that people receive justice through an independent judicial system. I want to use this office to support people in obtaining justice.”
In response to inquiries about forming a permanent attorney service for handling state cases, Kajol noted that it is a policy matter of the government. He aims to make the AG’s office more citizen-friendly, ensuring that both parties in court are represented by competent lawyers, including the state. Avoiding unnecessary harassment or delays will be a key priority for the office under his leadership.
Addressing past allegations against some law officers, Kajol acknowledged that some complaints might have merit and promised that credible allegations would be reviewed. He praised the performance of many competent officers currently serving, emphasizing the importance of maintaining high standards. He also mentioned that the experience of the current law minister would be beneficial in fulfilling his responsibilities.
As Chairman of the Bangladesh Bar Council, Kajol pledged efforts to ensure timely bar examinations without complications or delays. Reflecting on his professional journey, he highlighted his dedication to his studies as his greatest strength and described his appointment as Attorney General as a significant professional recognition. He affirmed his commitment to impartiality, vowing not to let political considerations influence his work.
