Gaibandha: Police have arrested two leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami in connection with an alleged assault on an officer-in-charge (OC) and several police personnel at Palashbari Police Station in Gaibandha.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the second arrest occurred early Friday when Detective Branch (DB) police detained Mizanur Rahman, the former Ameer of Palashbari municipal Jamaat, from his Giridhari Para residence. Following his detention, he was sent to jail after a court order. This arrest followed the earlier detention of Towhidul Islam Kanon, marking a total of two arrests in relation to the incident.

Palashbari Police Station OC Sarwar-e Alam reported that the incident took place on Wednesday night around 9:30 pm. The conflict arose over a disagreement regarding the locking of a shop owned by the municipality. Mahmudul Hasan Palash, Baitul Mal secretary of Jubo Jamaat, allegedly led a group of Jamaat activists into the police station, demanding that police address their grievances. When the police declined, the activists reportedly assaulted the OC and other officers.

At least nine police personnel, including the OC, several sub-inspectors, and a female constable, sustained injuries during the attack, as confirmed by the police. In response to the incident, a sub-inspector filed a case with Palashbari Police Station, and additional legal actions are in progress.
