Rajshahi: Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu, MP, emphasized the importance of honoring the nation’s freedom fighters and ensuring their dignity in all aspects of life. He argued that a nation cannot hold its head high if it fails to recognize and respect those who sacrificed for its independence.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Minu made these remarks while addressing a reception organized by the district administration at the District Shilpakala Academy auditorium. The event was held to pay tribute to freedom fighters, families of martyrs, and families of war-wounded freedom fighters in celebration of the Great Independence and National Day.
Minu highlighted the invaluable contributions of freedom fighters in achieving Bangladesh’s independence and national identity. He recounted his own experiences as a teenager during the liberation struggle, inspired by the rallying cry of Major Zia, which galvanized the nation to fight against the Pakistani occupation forces.
He acknowledged the collective sacrifices of millions of Bangladeshis who endured unimaginable hardships in the pursuit of independence. Minu also underscored the aspirations of the nation at that time, envisioning a prosperous and hunger-free Bangladesh with accessible education and healthcare for all.
The minister pointed out the government’s efforts to improve the welfare of freedom fighters and their families, including the gradual introduction of family and health cards for women heading families. He reaffirmed that the current government is committed to serving the interests of freedom fighters, describing it as “your government-the government of freedom fighters.”
The event saw participation from prominent figures such as Deputy Commissioner Afia Akhtar, Divisional Commissioner Dr. ANM Bazlur Rashid, and Rajshahi City Corporation Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton, among others. The gathering included family members of freedom fighters, government and non-government officials, and media representatives.
Minu concluded by expressing his determination to propel the nation forward through collective efforts and unity, reinforcing the significance of freedom fighters in shaping the country’s future.
