Palash: Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, a member of the Standing Committee of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and a Member of Parliament, has declared that under the leadership of Tarique Rahman, the BNP is committed to realizing the ideals of the Liberation War shortly after securing a decisive victory in the upcoming February 12 election. He made these statements as the chief guest at a series of discussion meetings organized by local BNP and its associate bodies in Palash, marking the 55th Independence Day.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Moyeen Khan emphasized that the BNP, founded by the great proclaimer of independence Ziaur Rahman, remains the most reliable force in upholding the spirit of independence and nationalism. He highlighted the party’s unwavering role in safeguarding the country’s independence, sovereignty, and democracy, promising to continue this legacy in the future.

Dr. Khan noted that even after over five decades of independence, Bangladesh has yet to fully realize the core ideals of the Liberation War, including equality, human dignity, and social justice. He lamented that the dream of creating a discrimination-free society remains largely unfulfilled. He criticized past leaderships for failing to uphold democratic values, although he acknowledged the people’s enduring efforts to fight against injustice and restore democracy.

He further stated that the Liberation War aimed to eradicate injustice and inequality from society and establish a democratic, justice-based state. Yet, this objective has faced obstacles throughout history. Critiquing the period from 2008 to 2024, he accused authoritarian governance of undermining fundamental rights and exacerbating societal inequalities, claiming that the abuse of state power curtailed people’s rights.

The senior BNP leader pointed out the persistence of various forms of inequality in the country, including disparities between the rich and the poor, the powerful and ordinary citizens, as well as regional and gender-based inequalities. He particularly noted the lack of equal opportunities for those living in hilly, coastal, and remote areas.

The meeting was presided over by Abdus Sattar, President of Palash Upazila BNP. Among the attendees were Bahauuddin Bhuiyan Milton, Senior Joint Secretary of the Upazila BNP; Alam Molla, President of the Municipal BNP; Mostafizur Rahman Papon, Member Secretary of the Upazila Chhatra Dal, along with leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliated organizations.
