Rajbari: Road Transport and Bridges, Shipping and Railways Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam today expressed deep shock over casualties occurred when a bus carrying more than 50 passengers plugged into the Padma River while boarding a ferry at Daulatdia Ghat in Rajbari. In a condolence message, he said such a heartbreaking accident was very painful for the nation.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, rescue efforts commenced immediately after the accident. The rescue ship ‘Hamza’ from the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) and a dedicated diving team were actively involved in the operation. Multiple entities, including the Fire Service, BIWTC, Bangladesh Army, Police, Naval Police, and local district administration, collaborated in a coordinated rescue effort.
The minister stated that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman was monitoring the rescue operations continuously and had issued directives to expedite their completion. Additionally, a high-level investigation committee has been formed to determine the cause of the accident, with assurances that those responsible will face legal consequences and exemplary punishment.
Rabiul expressed his condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the souls of the deceased. He also instructed authorities to ensure comprehensive support and better treatment for the injured, affirming the government’s commitment to maximum cooperation for the affected families.
