Dhaka: A Dhaka court today ordered the detention of Salahuddin Sagor in connection with the murder of TikToker Rakibul Islam Rakib, which occurred in front of the Central Shaheed Minar in the capital on March 15. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Fahmida Khandaker Anna made the ruling after police presented Sagor in court and requested that he remain in custody until the investigation is complete.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, on March 19, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nazmin Akter had previously granted a four-day remand for Sagor as part of the ongoing investigation into the case. The case documents reveal that Rakib, who was an honours second-year student at Shaikh Burhanuddin Post Graduate College, was brutally attacked-both shot and stabbed-while out with friends on the evening of March 15.
The victim was immediately taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in a critical state, where he was pronounced dead by medical staff. Following the tragic incident, Rakib's father, Tarikul Islam Khokon, filed a case with the Shahbagh Police Station on March 16 to seek justice for his son.
