Chattogram: Holy Eid-ul-Fitr, the largest religious festival for Muslims, is being celebrated today in the port city and surrounding districts with religious fervor and joy. After the Eid prayers held at various mosques and makeshift venues, Muslims in Chattogram are marking the occasion by exchanging greetings of 'Eid Mubarak' and visiting friends, relatives, and neighbors.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the celebrations mark the end of the fasting month of Ramadan, and the public holiday extends for six days. In preparation for Eid, people exchanged gifts, and young women decorated their palms with henna designs. A total of 321 Eid congregations took place, including major gatherings at M A Aziz Stadium and Jamiatul Falah Mosque, organized by the Chattogram Central Eid Jamaat Committee and Chattogram City Corporation.
The festival, despite heavy rain, proceeded peacefully with adequate security measures in place. Law enforcement agencies, including RAB, Police, and Ansars, were deployed at strategic points to maintain order. Citizens, dressed in new attire, gathered to offer prayers and embrace each other in the spirit of brotherhood and equality.
Key Eid congregations were organized at notable locations across the city. The M.A. Aziz Stadium hosted a gathering at 8:30 a.m., while Jamiatul Falah Mosque held two congregations at 8:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. Other important venues included Andarkilla Shahi Jame Mosque, Laldhighi Maidan, and several others.
Prominent figures and community leaders, including Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain, participated in the prayers, emphasizing a message of unity and equality. Security around Jamiatul Falah Mosque was intensified with special measures by the Chittagong Metropolitan Police.
Clerics stressed humility and sincerity in worship during their sermons, urging worshippers to uphold truth, justice, and humanity. Authorities ensured improved meal provisions in hospitals, jails, orphanages, and juvenile centers.
Reports indicate that rural communities in fourteen upazilas are celebrating Eid with enthusiasm. District administration officials confirmed peaceful congregations across neighborhoods with significant participation from the Muslim community.
