Bangalore: The Karnataka State Commission for Women has called upon the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to take decisive action concerning purportedly obscene and derogatory lyrics found in films, focusing on a particular song from the movie ‘KD: The Devil’. The Commission’s request follows multiple complaints from the public.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the Commission directed a letter to the CBFC’s regional director, expressing its disapproval of the song ‘Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke’, which it claims portrays women disrespectfully. The Commission emphasized that such lyrics breach film certification rules and could have adverse effects on women’s safety and social well-being. It highlighted the necessity for any content that demeans or presents women in an obscene manner to be excluded from public release.

The Commission urged the CBFC to meticulously review such scenes and lyrics, ensuring they are altered or removed before certification is granted. It also called for accountability from those responsible for incorporating such content.

In a separate communication to the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce, the Commission echoed similar concerns, advocating for regulations to curb the use of offensive language in films. It cautioned that such content has the potential to incite harassment, particularly among younger audiences.

Meanwhile, actor Kangana Ranaut has voiced her criticism of the song, labeling it a ‘new low’ and advocating for stricter control over vulgar content in Bollywood.

The matter has also extended to legal circles, with a lawyer filing a complaint seeking action against the song. The complaint alleges that the lyrics are highly vulgar and sexually suggestive, posing a threat to public decency.
