Auckland: New Zealand national cricket team defeated South Africa by 68 runs in the second Twenty20, leveling the five-match series 1-1. Devon Conway played a pivotal role, scoring a team-high 60 runs, as New Zealand posted a total of 175-6 on a challenging pitch.

According to United News of Bangladesh, South Africa’s response faltered as they were bowled out for 107 in 15.3 overs, with New Zealand’s pacers Ben Sears and Lockie Ferguson taking three wickets each. The Proteas struggled with the pitch’s uneven pace and bounce, resulting in all 10 wickets falling to catches. George Linde was the notable performer for South Africa, scoring 33 off 12 balls before being dismissed by Ferguson.

South Africa captain Keshav Maharaj acknowledged the challenges faced by his team, citing New Zealand’s disciplined bowling and the unexpected lack of dew as factors that made scoring difficult. Despite a solid start, South Africa lost their last six wickets for 40 runs.

New Zealand, opting to bat first, had a promising start with an opening partnership of 43 runs in the powerplay. Conway and Tom Latham set the tone, reaching 81-2 at the halfway stage. While scoring slowed on the two-paced pitch, contributions from Nick Kelly and Mitchell Santner, along with a late surge from Josh Clarkson and Cole McConchie, helped New Zealand reach a competitive total.

The third match of the series is scheduled to take place in Auckland on Friday, promising another exciting encounter between the two teams.
