Feni: A man was killed in a clash between two groups of villagers over soil cutting in Chhagalnaiya Upazila of Feni District early Sunday. The deceased was identified as Abu Ahmed alias Hona Mia, 37, son of Abul Kashem of Pathannagar village in the upazila. He worked as a token agent for vehicles in the area.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the conflict arose when some influential people, including Nur Ahmed Mia, were involved in extracting soil from a field and transporting it by pickup vans to sell in the Kontraktor Mosque area under Pathannagar union. The situation escalated when Kamrul Hasan Zahid and his associates entered the area around 2 am and obstructed the workers.
An altercation ensued between Kamrul and Abu Ahmed, who was Nur Ahmed Mia’s cousin, over going on Facebook Live regarding the soil cutting issue, which triggered the clash. The situation turned violent when approximately 10 to 12 individuals attacked Abu Ahmed, leaving him critically injured.
Abu Ahmed was rushed to Sadar Hospital, where he was declared dead by doctors. During the attack, two other individuals sustained injuries while attempting to save Abu Ahmed.
Shaheen Mia, officer-in-charge of Chhagalnaiya Police Station, reported that police, with the assistance of local residents, arrested seven people in connection with the incident.
