Dhaka: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is closely monitoring the health condition of Mirza Abbas Uddin Ahmed, a BNP Standing Committee Member and the Prime Minister’s political adviser, who is currently receiving treatment at Evercare Hospital in the city.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Minister Professor Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain addressed journalists about Mirza Abbas’s health status. ‘Mirza Abbas has been kept under intensive observation at the hospital’s Neuro Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The Prime Minister is taking constant updates on Mirza Abbas’s physical condition,’ Dr. Zahid stated.
Dr. Zahid urged everyone to pray for Mirza Abbas’s swift recovery and mentioned that a medical board comprising specialist physicians has been established. Senior neurologists are part of the board, including Professor Ali Uzzaman, Professor Sheikh Abdul Qader, Professor Zillur Rahman, Professor Din Mohammad, Professor Sayed Ahmed, and Professor Zafar Iqbal. Dr. Zahid also noted that he joins the board meetings online.
The minister further explained that the board convened a meeting to evaluate Mirza Abbas’s condition and made necessary arrangements for his potential transfer to Singapore. Communication with neuro specialists at the National University Hospital in Singapore has been established, and procedures for admission there have been completed.
An air ambulance is ready for the possible transfer, but the final decision will rely on the medical board’s recommendation. Mirza Abbas became ill suddenly on Wednesday, losing consciousness while drinking water during iftar. Due to his unchanged condition, he was admitted to Evercare Hospital later that night.
Previously, Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Social Welfare Minister Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain, and BNP Standing Committee member Abdul Moyeen Khan visited the hospital to check on Mirza Abbas. They consulted with the medical board’s doctors regarding his health.
BNP Media Cell Member Shairul Kabir Khan conveyed that Mirza Abbas’s wife, Afroza Abbas, has requested the people of the country to pray for her husband’s speedy recovery.
