Dhaka: Coordinator of Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal Advocate Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, MP, announced that the government has implemented comprehensive measures to ensure safe, smooth, and comfortable travel for people heading home for Eid-ul-Fitr. This was stated during a views-exchange meeting with transport workers and owners at the Gulistan Natya Mancha open ground in the capital.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting was organized by transport owners and workers from the Gulistan and Fulbaria bus terminals to facilitate safe Eid travel. Attendees included representatives from transport owners, workers, police, BRTA, journalists, and the city corporation. The meeting was presided over by Jahangir Sikder, the Convenor of the Gulistan Terminal Bus Owners Association, with key figures such as Acting Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Md Sarwar, President of Dhaka Road Transport Owners' Association MA Baten, and General Secretary of Bangladesh Road Transport Workers' Federation Humayun Kabir Khan also speaking.
Shimul Biswas highlighted the annual surge in travelers from the capital and other cities to their village homes during Eid, leading to increased pressure on road, river, and rail routes. To address this, he stated that law enforcement agencies, transport-related institutions, and workers' organizations have been instructed to coordinate efforts to ensure passenger safety.
Special monitoring will be enhanced in bus terminals, highways, and key locations to guarantee safe journeys, Shimul Biswas added. Authorities have been urged to take a firm stance against unfit vehicles to maintain safety standards.
Shimul Biswas also emphasized that transport owners and workers have been instructed to avoid reckless driving, excessive speed, and to adhere to traffic rules while ensuring adequate rest. Special attention is being given to the safety of women passengers, children, and the elderly.
He concluded by asserting that the collaboration of the government, law enforcement agencies, transport owners, workers, and all concerned parties is crucial to prevent any suffering during Eid travel.
