Jamalpur: A meeting here today of the District Road Safety Committee was held at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner’s office to ensure safe and smooth travel for people before and after the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr. Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Yusuf Ali presided over the meeting.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, participants in the meeting discussed the necessity of strict monitoring of transport fares to prevent passengers from being overcharged during the Eid travel rush. Emphasis was placed on coordinated measures to ensure the smooth movement of vehicles, maintain road discipline, and prevent traffic congestion on major routes.
The meeting also highlighted the importance of strengthening surveillance on highways and transport terminals to make the Eid journey safe and comfortable for passengers. Deputy Commissioner Yusuf Ali underscored that strict legal action would be taken against anyone attempting to charge additional fares from homebound passengers during the Eid period. Furthermore, he urged for the economical use of electricity in the greater national interest.
The event saw the attendance of representatives from the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), Traffic Police, Bangladesh Railway, various transport organizations, journalists, and officials from different government departments, all of whom contributed to the discussions on ensuring road safety and fair practices during the festive season.
