Dhaka: Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Minister AZM Zahid Hossain has emphasized the necessity for the nation to progress under the stewardship of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, highlighting the importance of unity and collective effort in achieving national goals. “We want to advance the country under the leadership of the present Prime Minister Tarique Rahman by staying united. The people elected us, and we must work to fulfil the promises we made to them,” he proclaimed during his address.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister was speaking at an iftar mahfil organized by former leaders of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal of Rangpur Medical College, held at Emmanuelle’s Convention Center in the capital. He took the opportunity to reflect on the 17 years of struggle and movements that culminated in a free, fair, and neutral election, which allowed the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, to serve the people. “All of you were on the streets and as a result, through a free, fair, and neutral election, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman got the opportunity to serve the people. We want to serve the people together with you, and take the country and its citizen forward together,” Zahid asserted.
He called upon party members and activists to back the party’s and the government’s initiatives from their respective positions, ensuring that the party’s image remains untarnished. The minister acknowledged the presence of conspiracies but urged dedication to the people’s welfare despite these challenges. Following his speech, prayers were offered for the peace of all martyrs’ souls.
The event was chaired by Dr Abu Mohammad Ahsan Firoz, former joint convener of the Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB) and joint secretary general of Rangpur Medical College Chhatra Dal. Other notable speakers included DAB secretary general and lawmaker Dr Mohammad Abdus Salam, former central president of BMA and DAB Professor Dr AKM Azizul Haque, BNP Health Affairs Secretary Dr Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, as well as other distinguished physicians.
