Dhaka: Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni on Wednesday emphasized the ruling party’s commitment to ensuring the 13th parliament is both effective and vibrant, with problems being addressed through discussion and debate. The remarks were made following a meeting of the BNP’s parliamentary party, chaired by Prime Minister and Leader of the House Tarique Rahman, at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Moni stated that the goal is to foster an environment conducive to constructive discussion, rational argument, and healthy debate on national issues within the parliament. He highlighted the importance of resolving national problems through dialogue, even amidst differing opinions, as a cornerstone of democracy. The Chief Whip expressed the treasury bench’s expectation of constructive cooperation from the opposition to achieve this objective.

Moni outlined that the parliament will adhere to its Rules of Procedure and Code of Conduct. Significant laws and policy matters aimed at enhancing people’s living standards will be introduced to the House. He emphasized that the upcoming parliament session will serve as the ‘people’s parliament,’ representing the rights, hopes, and aspirations of the nation’s citizens.

For the session commencing on Thursday, Moni mentioned that a member nominated by the Prime Minister will temporarily preside over the initial proceedings. Following the completion of initial formalities, the election and swearing-in of the Speaker will occur, followed by the election of the Deputy Speaker. He noted that the opposition has not yet proposed any candidate for the Deputy Speaker position.
