Dhaka: An inmate of Dhaka Central Jail died after suddenly falling ill on Wednesday afternoon, police said. The deceased was identified as Md Saiful Islam, 40, son of Azizul Haque and a resident of the Gachuabari area under Dhamrai Police Station.
According to United News of Bangladesh, prison guard Md Belayet reported that Saiful fell sick in the afternoon. Following instructions from prison authorities, several guards took him to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
Prison sources revealed that Saiful had been imprisoned in a case filed under the Narcotics Control Act with Dhamrai Police Station. Inspector Md Faruk, who is in charge of the police camp at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, stated that the body has been kept at the hospital morgue for an autopsy.
A post-mortem will be conducted in the presence of an executive magistrate. After the completion of the legal formalities, the body will be handed over to the family by the prison authorities, he added.
